Statement Reference Neuronal expression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] (under the control of Scer\GAL4[elav-C155]) reduces ethanol sensitivity.
Neuronal expression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] (under the control of Scer\GAL4[elav-C155]) throughout development, until the adult stage (where Scer\GAL80[ts.αTub84B] is induced) does not reduce ethanol sensitivity. Neuronal expression only after eclosion of the adult fly also fails to reduce ethanol sensitivity. Expression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[elav-C155] results in flies with increased resistance to ethanol-induced sedation compared to control flies.
Expression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF] results in a rough eye phenotype. 20.9% of flies expressing rlSem.C.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 have blistered wings. Expression of rlSem.C.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL432B results in ectopic vein material in the wing. The flies do not have a held out wing phenotype. When driven by Scer\GAL432B, causes an extra vein phenotype which is marked at 25oC and milder at 18oC. | |||

Statement Reference Flies over-expressing rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] in neurons with Scer\GAL4[elav-C155] in a aru[8.128] background shows increased sensitivity to ethanol sedation that is not significantly different from that of aru[8.128] flies, indicating that a aru[8.128] background suppresses the decreased ethanol sensitivity caused by overexpression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS]. Co-expression of hppy[RB.Scer\UAS] has no effect on the rough eye phenotype caused by expression of rl[Sem.C.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]. The wing blister phenotype of flies expressing rlSem.C.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 is not significantly enhanced by by2/+. eg18B flies expressing rlSem.C.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL432B have a held out wing phenotype. Ectopic eyes in eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1; rlSem.C.Scer\UAS are generally larger, and have more ommatidial definition than those in eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 flies. The proportion of eyaScer\UAS.cHa; Scer\GAL4dpp.PH flies with blistered wings (76%) is increased by heterozygosity for rlSem.C.Scer\UAS to 93%, while the proprotion with only mild wing defects is decreased from 24% to 7%. (All data from experiments with a single, 'strong' P{UAS-eya.H} insertion; n=approximately 300 in each case). | |||
