Detailed Description

taras132/tara1 mutant males and females show a reduction in daily sleep that is more severe than that seen in taras132 homozygotes. A significant reduction in sleep is also seen in male and female heterozygotes and waking activity is significantly increased in tara1/+ males.

Sleep bout duration is reduced in both males and female taras132/tara1 mutant flies. The number of sleep bouts is reduced in female flies, although a reduction in the number of sleep bouts is also seen in female heterozygotes. No reduction is sleep bout number is seen in male flies. Sleep latency (the time between lights off to the first sleep) is increased in both males and females.

taras132/tara1 mutant flies exhibit defects in locomotor rhythm in constant darkness.

taras132/tara1 mutant flies show severely reduced sleep compared to controls when assayed in either constant light or constant dark.

Homozygotes do not develop beyond the first larval instar. Heterozygotes do not have a held-out wing phenotype.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

The bang sensitive phenotype seen in parabss1/+ mutant females is not suppressed by one copy of tara1.

The wing nicking phenotype caused by expression of domdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4bbg-C96 is suppressed if the flies are also carrying tara1.

28% of osa1 tara1 double heterozygotes have a held-out wing phenotype. 1% of trxE2 tara1 double heterozygotes have a held-out wing phenotype. 10% of brm2 tara1 double heterozygotes have a held-out wing phenotype. 38% of trxE2 brm2 tara1 triple heterozygotes have a held-out wing phenotype.
