30% of Stat92E[397]/Df(3R)H-B79 animals die during embryogenesis and the remainder die during the first larval instar. Mosaic animals in which the eye-antennal disc is almost completely homozygous for Stat92E[397] show a reduced eye phenotype.
Stat92E[397]/+ third instar larval lymph glands show hyperplasia and increased plasmatocyte differentiation. There is no marked increase in lamellocyte differentiation.
Stat92E[397] wing disc clones average 6.4% of the wing pouch area, compared to 28% for wild-type clones. When wing discs are subjected to x-irradiation (5,000 rad daily for 3 days), Stat92E[397] clones take up 1.1% of the total pouch area. The level of apoptosis observed is increased in mutant wing discs subjected to x-irradiation compared to controls.
Adults with Stat92E397 clones in a Minute background have aberrantly small eyes.
In Stat92EEP3391/Stat92E397 egg chambers, border cell migration is reduced but border cell number is not affected.
Homozygous mutant mosaic egg chambers display severe border cell migration defects. Border cells frequently fail to penetrate into the nurse cell clusters and can be found at the anterior tip or along the sides of the egg chamber. Alternatively the cells migrate partially, but fail top reach the oocyte by stage 10.

When th[Scer\UAS.cBa] is over-expressed in the wing disc under the control of Scer\GAL4[tub.PU] from first instar larval stage (by heat-shock induction to inactivate Scer\GAL80[αTub84B.PL]), Stat92E[397] mutant clones take up 7.7% of the wing pouch after x-irradiation treatment (5,000 rads daily for 3 days). Low levels of cell death are observed.

The mutant eye phenotype seen in mosaic animals in which the eye-antennal disc is almost completely homozygous for Stat92E[397] is rescued by Stat92E[Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1], Stat92E[ΔN.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1] or Stat92E[ΔC.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1] expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4[ey.PH]. The mutant eye phenotype seen in mosaic animals in which the eye-antennal disc is almost completely homozygous for Stat92E[397] is not rescued by Stat92E[Y711F.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1] or Stat92E[R442P.Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1] expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4[ey.PH].
Stat92E397 fails to complement Stat92E56D3, Stat92E80A7 and Stat92E85C9 with respect to lethality.
