Mis-expression of shn, through expression of shnScer\UAS.cMa in the entire circadian circuit through Scer\GAL4tim.PE results in a lengthening of daily activity rhythms.

Expression of shn in the adult, but not during development, through two copies shnScer\UAS.cMa under the control of both Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf and Scer\GAL80ts.╬▒Tub84B (at the restrictive temperature during development), results in a significant period lengthening of 2 hours, evident immediately after the temperature shift. These flies do not exhibit changes in circuit morphology.

Co-expression of perScer\UAS.cYa and shnScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf results in highly rhythmic flies, with periods close to 24 hours.

The presence of ClkT:SV5\V5 partially rescues the long period phenotype found upon expression of shnScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf.

Co-expression of ClkScer\UAS.cZa with shnScer\UAS.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf results in an intermediate phenotype, with a shorter period than in Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf->shnScer\UAS.cMa flies, but a longer period than in Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf->ClkScer\UAS.cZa flies.
