      60.0% of onion stage spermatids show abnormalities in larp43 males. Of these abnormal cells, 49.3% show abnormal cell numbers or size, 39.8% have abnormal Nebenkern numbers or size, 10.9% show a failure of cytokinesis and 26.4% have multiple abnormalities.

      The distribution of mitochondria during meiotic division is significantly affected in mutant males compared to wild type. In the mutant males, mitochondria fail to be transported along aster microtubules towards their plus ends or fail to assemble at the equator of metaphase cells.
