Knockdown of egr in the fat body (through expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Lsp2.PH]) significantly increases survival time during an Salmonella typhimurium infection. However, bacterial loads over this time remain unchanged, indicating that the extended survival is due to tolerance rather than resistance. Knockdown of egr in hemocytes (through expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Hml.PG]) does not affect fly survival when infected by Salmonella typhimurium. Knockdown of egr in the fat body or hemocytes (through expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Lsp2.PH] or Scer\GAL4[Hml.PG]) reduces melanization after Salmonella typhimurium infection. Knockdown of egr in the fat body or hemocytes of Salmonella typhimurium infected flies(through expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Lsp2.PH] or Scer\GAL4[Hml.PG]) reduces feeding rates compared to infected wild-type flies. This change in feeding rate may be responsible for some aspects of the egr phenotype, although it must be noted that even in the absence of infection, egr knockdown flies consume less food.
Expression of egrGS9830 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in ablation of the adult eye. Co-expression of egrIR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF suppresses this phenotype.

Expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[egr-GAL4] partially suppresses the NMJ degeneration seen in Ank2[f02001] mutant third instar larvae.
Expression of egr[IR.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] only within scrib[1] clones in the eye-antennal disc results in 30.7% pupal lethality, while expression of egr[IR.Scer\UAS] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] both within scrib[1] clones in the eye-imaginal disc and in the surrounding wild-type cells results in 51.3% pupal lethality.
The eye phenotype in Ras85D[KP] mutant flies is partially suppressed by ectopic expression of egr[IR.Scer\UAS] in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF].

Co-expression of egr[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] does not suppress the wing defects caused by expression of HIV-1\Vpu[Scer\UAS.cLa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[dpp.blk1].
