Expression of Vang[Scer\UAS.cWa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[dpp.blk1] only very rarely leads to cell orientation defects in the wing.
Expression of VangScer\UAS.cWa in the eye, under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev, causes mild planar polarity defects.
Expression of VangScer\UAS.cWa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 in a stripe along the proximo-distal axis of the wing results in a reorientation of wing hairs, which now point towards from the expression domain.
VangScer\UAS.cWa; Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL flies are viable and have largely normal planar polarity. In the abdomens of VangScer\UAS.cWa; Scer\GAL80αTub84B.PL; Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL flies, somatic clones lacking Scer\GAL80αTub84B.PL affect planar polarity in two ways: (i) hairs behind the clone are usually reversed, but (ii) hairs inside and mainly at the back of the clone are disheveled. The non-autonomous affect of these clones on tissue polarity can act across the anterior-posterior compartment boundary.
When VangScer\UAS.cWa is driven by Scer\GAL4hs.2sev at 29oC, about 2% of ommatidia exhibit planar polarity defects.

Co-expression of Vang[Scer\UAS.cWa] enhances the ommatidial over-rotation phenotype which is caused by expression of nmo[Scer\UAS.cUa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[hs.2sev].
Co-expression of scrib[Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Avic\GFP] and Vang[Scer\UAS.cWa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[dpp.blk1] in the wing results in robust reorientation of cells outside the expression domain towards the expression domain.
The planar polarity defects seen in the eye when VangScer\UAS.cWa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev in a wild-type background are significantly enhanced in a dcoj3B9/+ background.
The non-autonomous effect on planar polarity of VangScer\UAS.cWa; Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL somatic clones (produced by the Scer\GAL80 MARCM method) in the adult abdomen is suppressed by pwn/pwn stanE59/stanE59. Cells within the resulting clones have randomised planar polarity.
The addition of pkpk-sple-13 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals enhances the planar polarity defects - about 20% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of pkpk-sple-26 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals enhances the planar polarity defects - about 14% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of dgo308 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals partially enhances the planar polarity defects - about 5% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of dgo380 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals enhances the planar polarity defects - about 12% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of stanE45 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals enhances the planar polarity defects - about 25% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of stanE59 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals enhances the planar polarity defects - about 25% of ommatidia exhibit show defects. The addition of N55e11 to VangScer\UAS.cWa, Scer\GAL4hs.2sev animals has no effect on the planar polarity defects.
