Detailed Description
Statement
Reference

sra1 flies do not show retinal degeneration even at 45 days old, and third instar larvae do not show significant Syt1 aggregate formation in axons at the NMJ (driven by Scer\GAL4elav.PU), but larvae show significant locomotor defects.

Homozygous adults show an increase in the number (12 times wild type) and a decrease in the size (82% reduction) of mitochondria in the photoreceptor axons at the level of the lamina. The morphology of the mitochondria appears normal. The increase in number of the mitochondria is more severe in old flies.

sra1/sra62 adults show an increase in the number and a decrease in the size of mitochondria in the photoreceptor axons at the level of the lamina.

Flies show moderate sensitivity to mechanical stress compared to wild type.

sra1 homozygotes show severe learning defects in Pavlovian olfactory conditioning tests. Short term memory appears normal in these flies, but long term memory is absent. In homogenates of whole flies, calcineurin activity is significantly increased and PKA activity is significantly decreased compared to wild-type. Mushroom body morphology is normal in sra1 homozygotes, but.

Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

sesB1/+ ; sra1 flies are bang sensitive, remaining paralysed for a prolonged period after mechanical stress.

Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference

sra1 significantly enhances age-dependent retinal degeneration and phototaxis defects in flies with expression of Hsap\APP695.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC driven by Scer\GAL4GMR.PU.

sra1 slightly (but not significantly) increases synaptic vesicle accumulation (aggregates) seen in axons at the neuromuscular junction (and does not enhance locomotor defects) in third instar larvae with expression of Hsap\APP695.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC driven by Scer\GAL4elav.PU. sra1 does not enhance bouton number (synapse proliferation) or satellite bouton number at the NMJ in Scer\GAL4elav.PU>Hsap\APP695.Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC larvae.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Partially rescued by
Comments

Expression of sraScer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PU significantly rescues the increase in number and decrease in size of mitochondria in the photoreceptor axons at the level of the lamina which is seen in sra1 flies.
