Overexpression of smoScer\UAS.cHa.T:Hsap\MYC
behind the morphogenetic furrow, under the control of Scer\GAL4lz-gal4
generates rough eyes, with defects most pronounced in the posterior. At approximately 24 hours, pupal retinas are relatively normal, although primary cells are often misaligned (27%). By approximately 30 hours, pupal ommatidia exhibit reduced numbers of cone cells (16%) and of lattice cells (75%), with occasional cone cells adopting a rounded morphology characteristic of apoptotic cells. Photoreceptor differentiation, assessed by counting rhabdomeres in pupal retinas, is unaffected in these mutants.
