Expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU does not result in any obvious eye phenotypes in adults.

Expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in adults with a moderate rough eye phenotype. Each ommatidium contains a variable number of photoreceptor cells. Ommatidia in the pupal eye disc often contain additional accessory cone cells. Expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.2sev results in several defects in ommatidial assembly. Firstly, some ommatidia contain two R3 cells (indicating that a putative R4 cell has instead adopted the R3 fate). Secondly, some ommatidia of opposite chirality from wild type are seen (indicating that the R3 and R4 cells have adopted the opposite cell fates). Thirdly, the R4 cells fails to be specified in some ommatidia. Fourthly, in some ommatidia either the R3 or R4 cell or both has adopted an R7 cell fate. Finally, in rare cases the presumptive R7 cell fails to differentiate. The mild rough eye phenotype caused by expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is not affected if the flies also carry nej3/+.

Co-expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS partially rescues the small eye and lens fusion phenotype seen in adult flies expressing Hsap\APPAβ42.Scer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU. Co-expression of nejΔHQ.Scer\UAS partially suppresses the increased cell death observed in third instar eye discs of flies expressing Hsap\APPAβ42.Scer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PU.
