Lig4169 mutants display mildly increased frequency of egg shell defects compared to wild-type controls.

Lig4169/Lig4169 mutant adults do not exhibit a significant decrease in lifespan nor a significant increase in tumor formation, as compared to wild type.

The frequency of insertions at repair junctions during alternative end-joining after Scer\SCEI-induced double-strand breaks is significantly increased relative to wild-type in Lig4169 mutants.

The proportion of homologous recombination during zinc-finger induced gene targeting is dramatically increased at the expense of non-homologous end joining in homozygous Lig4169 mutants.

Female homozygous and male hemizygous third instar larvae do not show hypersensitivity to gamma irradiation. Homozygotes are not hypersensitive to methyl methanesulfonate. Excision and repair events of P{hswa} in Lig4169 males carrying P{hswa} and a source of transposase have been studied. These studies show that the mutant males are not impaired in their ability to repair P-element-induced double-strand breaks through incomplete synthesis-dependent strand annealing (SDSA) and, in addition, complete SDSA appears to proceed normally in these flies.

The high frequency of eggshell defects characteristic for mus308null mutants is increased further by combination with Lig4169 and the mus308null;Lig4169 double mutants fail to hatch.

The presence of Lig4169/Lig4169 does not significantly enhance the severity of tumor formation, but does enhance the decreased lifespan seen in BlmN1/BlmN1 mutant adults.

There is a further decrease in the percentage of end-joining repair products in studies of excision and repair events of P{hswa} in Lig4169 ; mus308ZIII-2003/Df(3R)kar3l double mutant males compared to the percentage seen in mus308ZIII-2003/Df(3R)kar3l single mutant males. 100% of the end-joining repair products are associated with large deletions in the double mutant males.

At intermediate doses (400-500 rad) of gamma irradiation, Lig4169 spn-A3/spn-A093A double mutant larvae show increased sensitivity to irradiation compared to spn-A3/spn-A093A single mutants.
