Homozygous neuroblast clones result in a 20% reduction in the number of projection neurons compared to wild type. Their dendrites appear to target normally.

Homozygous single-cell DL1 projection neuron clones show normal dendrite targeting and normal axon arborisation in the lateral horn.

Heterozygosity for Hdac3N leads to strong suppression of the eye colour variegation found in In(1)wm4 mutants.

At 29oC, Hdac3N/+ enhances the ectopic wing vein phenotype of Snr1E1/+; 100% of flies have ectopic veins emanating from the posterior crossvein and posterior to the L5 longitudinal vein. The ectopic wing vein phenotype seen in Hdac3N/Snr1E1 double heterozygotes at 29oC is partially suppressed by brm2/+.
