Expression of ab[Scer\UAS.cBa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[ptc-559.1] in the somatic cells of the germarium (using the temperature sensitive Scer\GAL80[ts.αTub84B] allele to restrict expression to the adult stage) results in supernumerary germline cells containing a single spectrosome. Single cell somatic clones in the ovary expressing ab[Scer\UAS.cBa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] and induced during niche development resemble niche cells by their shape and their ability to anchor germline cells containing a single spectrosome (SSCs). The mutant germaria contain supernumerary SSCs compared to controls.
Ectopic veins form in a cell-autonomous fashion within small abScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4Ubx.PdC somatic clones in the wing.
Ectopic expression of abScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4109(2)80 results in a 40% reduction in the number of dendritic ends of all dorsal cluster DA neurons in second instar larvae. Expression of abScer\UAS.cBa in ddaC neurons, driven by Scer\GAL4477, leads to a 51% decrease in the dendritic branching of these neurons. Expression of abScer\UAS.cBa in ddaE and vpda neurons, driven by Scer\GAL4221, leads to a decrease in dendritic branching in these neurons.
