Flies expressing Lk6EP30.18 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 are smaller than normal (weight reduction compared to controls is 10% in females and 9% in males). The wings of these flies are smaller than normal, and this is caused by a decrease in cell number, but not in cell size. The weight reduction caused by overexpression of Lk6EP30.18 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 is diminished by reducing the yeast content of the food. The lethality caused by overexpression of Lk6EP30.18 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C is substantially suppressed if the animals are reared on low yeast food. Under starvation conditions, flies expressing Lk6EP30.18 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 show an extension of lifespan compared to controls.

Animals expressing both Akt1Scer\UAS.cRa and Pk61CEP837 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF have a large-eye phenotype. Expression of Lk6EP30.18 in this background strongly suppresses this phenotype. The small body phenotype caused by expression of Lk6EP30.18 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 is not seen if the flies are also expressing eIF-4ESer251Ala.t8.9 in a eIF-4ES058911/eIF-4ES058911 background.
