There is a significant drop in the courtship index (CI, the fraction of time spent performing any of the steps of courtship) of mutant males. They are capable of all courtship steps, but perform them less frequently. Short-term locomotor activity is unaffected. The male courtship phenotype is still observed if mutants are deprived of visual input or paired with young/mature virgin females. Mutant males do not show increased male-male courtship. hec[f06077] male flies missing the third antennal segment show significantly reduced courtship compared to control males under red light.

Statement
Reference
When hec[f06077] is placed in a fru[4]/+ background, a significantly lower courtship index is observed in males than in the hec[f06077] males alone.

Expression of hec[Scer\UAS.cLa] using Scer\GAL4[hec.PL] or Scer\GAL4[fru.P1.D] completely rescues the courtship phenotype of hec[f06077] males. Expression of hec[Scer\UAS.cLa] only in adult mature males using Scer\GAL4[hec.PL] or Scer\GAL4[fru.P1.D] together with the Scer\GAL80[ts.αTub84B] system completely rescues the courtship phenotype of hec[f06077] males.
