Expression of two copies of stidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the regulation of Scer\GAL4ey.PB leads to the formation of multinucleate cells. Emerging adults have considerably smaller eyes compared to wild-type, composed of large and disorganised ommatidia. This rough eye phenotype is enhanced by the presence of sti3.

Rac1J10 Rac2Δ MtlΔ triple mutant embryos (lacking both maternal and zygotic function of the Rac1, Rac2 and Mtl genes) are able to almost completely dominantly suppress the stidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS (under the regulation of Scer\GAL4ey.PB) phenotype, reverting the eye to wild-type size and appearance. A single copy of the sqhE20.E21 transgene is able to considerably suppress the stidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS (under the regulation of Scer\GAL4ey.PB) rough eye phenotype. The stidsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS Scer\GAL4ey.PB rough eye phenotype is significantly enhanced by Rho172O.
