Scer\FLP1, Scer\FRT mediated recombination between fruΔtra-5'half and fruX-3'half has produced a fru gene lacking the 3' 261bp of the S-exon, sequence that includes the tra protein binding sites of this exon. No marker genes or vector sequence remain apart from an Scer\FRT site about 0.6 Kb 3' of the mutated S-exon.

XX fru[Δtra]/+ animals do not show midline crossing by foreleg gustatory receptor neuron (GRN) axons (similar to XX wild-type control females).
The normally male specific 'muscle of lawrence' is ectopically present in fruΔtra/fru4-40 females. fruΔtra/fru4-40 males exhibit normal levels of courtship behaviour towards females and show a small but significant competitive advantage over wild-type males in competition for copulation with a wild-type virgin female. This may be mainly due to a significant decrease in courtship latency seen in these males. fruΔtra/fru4-40 do not show any increase in courtship of other males compared to wild-type and do not form into mating chains. Less than 25% of fruΔtra/fru4-40 females are fertile. In mating assays in which a single virgin fruΔtra/fru4-40 female is paired with a wild-type male, less than 16% of these females copulate. fruΔtra/fru4-40 females court wild-type females, with courtship indices over 40% in single-pair assays. They also form courtship chains with other fruΔtra/fru4-40females (chaining indices >40%). These females perform all steps in the male courtship ritual apart from copulation, which is anatomically impossible, and abdominal bending in attempt to copulate, which may be inhibited by the much larger abdomen of females. However, the proportion of time spent in different parts of the courtship ritual differs form control (fruC/fru4-40) males: they spend significantly more time tapping and less time licking, overall courting time is reduced but initiation of courtship is just as rapid. Unlike control females, these females also court males. Courtship of males by fruΔtra/fru4-40 females is significantly enhanced if the males are traScer\UAS.cFa; Scer\GAL4oeC.
The sexual dimorphism of the volumes of the DA1, VA1v and VL2a antennal glomeruli is eliminated in fruΔtra mutant animals.

XX dsx[1] fru[Δtra]/dsx[1] animals have contralateral foreleg gustatory receptor neuron (GRN) axons in most cases. These XX animals have on average, less midline crossings than their XY dsx[1] fru[Δtra]/dsx[1] siblings.
The reduction in courtship behaviour seen in traScer\UAS.cFa; Scer\GAL4elav.PLu males is suppressed by fruΔtra/+.
