Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 animals develop with a similar rate as controls, but they reach pupation at a significantly bigger size than controls. Adults are 17% heavier than controls. Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 flies have larger wings owing to an increased size and number of cells. Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 flies also have larger ommatidia. Scer\GAL4ppl.PU MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 flies have larger wings comprising larger cells.

Scer\GAL4Hml.PG- or Scer\GAL4srp.Hemo-mediated expression of MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 does not affect developmental timing or body/wing size.

Fat cells in the fat bodies of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 animals contain cytoplasmic lipid droplets smaller in size than controls. The fat cells are larger and contain more triglyceride compared to controls.

The half-life of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 animals during starvation is increased compared to controls.

Scer\GAL4Cg.PA-mediated expression of MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 does not result in large wings in a Df(3L)Ilp2-3, Ilp51 background.

Co-expression of Desat1GD2950, but not PyKGD16178 or Hex-CGD12378, prevents the Scer\GAL4Cg.PA-mediated expression of MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 resulting in abnormally large pupae and large wings. Co-expression of Desat1GD2950 also prevents the increased half-life upon starvation seen in Scer\GAL4Cg.PA MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 animals.

Expression of MycScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU suppresses the reduction in l(2)gl4 mutant wing disc clone size compared with controls. The clones are round in shape and massively overgrown, with the largest clones located in the proximal regions of the disc (the hinge and pleura). Cells in these clones are larger than in l(2)gl4 clones, but this gain in cell size only accounts for a small fraction of clone expansion. The majority of the large clones show little or no apoptosis, but some apoptosis is seen in smaller clones and just outside of the overgrown clones. The cells exhibit defects in apical-basal polarity. There is some discontinuity across the basement membrane, suggesting the cells have invasive properties.
