Scer\GAL4GMR.PU-mediated expression of Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa leads to a blackened ommatidia phenotype with variable expressivity.

Negative geotaxis is not altered in flies expressing Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa via Scer\GAL4elav.PU.

Overexpression of Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF produces a degeneration of the developing adult visual system.

Expression of Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu causes a reduction in viability.

Expression of Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in adult flies with smaller eyes, disrupted ommatidial number and spacing, and absence of some sensory bristles. Some ommatidia are black in colour. The number of rhabdomeres/ommatidia is reduced in these eyes. Photoreceptor neurons are highly vacuolised with rhabdomeres in various stages of degenerations.

Complementation and Rescue Data
Comments

Expression of Scer\GAL4elav.PU>Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa rescues the spontaneous miniature excitatory junction potential (mini EJP) frequency and locomotory phenotypes observed in Df(1)446-20 mutants.

The accumulation of abnormal storage material seen in the brains of Df(1)446-20 homozygotes is completely suppressed by expression of Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu.

The rough eye defects in flies expressing Ppt1Scer\UAS.cKa in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF are suppressed in a Df(1)RA2 or Df(1)KA14 mutant background.
