At 25[o]C, 70% of flw^G0172 larvae fail to successfully pupariate and of the 30% that do form pupae, essentially all arrest development prior to adult eclosion.

Mutant larvae are reduced and more variable in size compared to wild-type controls. The mutant larvae show reduced motility compared to wild type and frequent detachment of muscles is seen, particularly in the ventral intersegmental muscles.

More than 99% of mutants die before reaching adulthood, and the few escapers have curled or crumpled wings.

Dividing neuroblasts from flw^G0172 homozygous larvae have tangled, unevenly condensed and lagging and bridged chromosomes during anaphase

Around 2% of flw^G0172 mutant males survive. Survivors have severely crumpled wings.

stck^{wt.T:Zzzz\FLAG} increases the frequency of male flw^G0172 escapers from 3.1% to 22.5% at 18[o]C. The rescued males are fertile. stck^{wt.T:Zzzz\FLAG} increases the small size of flw^G0172 larvae, such that they are increased in size compared to wild type. The reduced motility of flw^G0172 larvae is rescued by stck^{wt.T:Zzzz\FLAG}, with the rescued larvae being significantly more motile than wild type. The detachment of ventral intersegmental muscles seen in flw^G0172 larvae is partially rescued.

At 25[o]C, stck^{wt.T:Zzzz\FLAG} fully rescues the larval lethality of flw^G0172 mutants, but the pupal lethality is not rescued.

flw^G0172 mutants carrying either stck^{Q38A.T:Zzzz\FLAG} or stck^{D303V.T:Zzzz\FLAG} arrest during the larval stages. The larvae are significantly smaller and significantly less motile than flw^G0172 single mutant larvae. Expression of stck^{Q38A.T:Zzzz\FLAG} does not rescue the detachment of ventral intersegmental muscles seen in flw^G0172 larvae. Expression of stck^{D303V.T:Zzzz\FLAG} slightly rescues the detachment of ventral intersegmental muscles seen in flw^G0172 larvae.

flw^G0172 ; stck^3R-17 /+ animals show complete larval lethality (only a limited number of animals were of this genotype could be isolated due to a high rate of balancer breakdown in the required crosses).

Expression of Zyx^{Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP} under the control of Scer\GAL4^how-24B has no effect on either the rate of larval or pupal lethality of flw^G0172 mutants.

Pupariation is blocked in flw^G0172 ; rhea^Ubi.PB mutants, with complete larval lethality being seen.

The wing defects of flw^G0172 escapers are suppressed by Drak^del.
