Eggs laid by del2/del4 females expressing delScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 do not develop very far. Most eggs exhibit a mild ventralization with two closely spaced appendages or one single appendage indicating a partial rescue of later phenotypes. Expression of delScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of the maternal Scer\GAL4mat.αTub67C.T:Hsim\VP16 restores oogenesis, although the females lay few eggs which do not develop very far.
The majority of embryos from del2/del4 mutants that express delScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 are arrested in the metaphase of the first mitotic division.
One copy of delScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1, expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 restores egg chamber production in del2/del4 mutants, resulting on ovaries of wild-type size. Ovarioles in rescued females contain normal numbers of developing egg chambers that lack defects in encapsulation and oocyte positioning. karyosome formation is restored as well.
Expression of delScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 in del2/del4 mutants, under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 renders males fertile.
