Reference

Mutant larvae ingest similar amounts of food as control larvae, but are smaller in size. As occurs in wild type, the mutant larvae do not wander from a food source.

The timing of pupariation is normal in Nf1E1/Nf1E2 animals, but they show an approximately 25% weight reduction compared to controls at the end of the larval stage.

Nf1E1/Nf1E2 do not show altered longevity compared to controls.

Mutant third instar larvae show an increase in mean number of boutons per neuromuscular junction compared to controls.

Bouton number per muscle area is significantly increased compared to wild type at the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) in homozygous and Nf1E1/Nf1E2 larvae.

The amplitude of the evoked junctional potential (EJP) at the NMJ is significantly increased in homozygous larvae compared to wild type, while the amplitude of the spontaneous mEJP is unaffected. The quantal content at the mutant NMJs is thus increased compared to wild type.

The amplitude of the evoked junctional potential (EJP) at the NMJ is significantly increased in Nf1E1/Nf1E2 larvae compared to wild type.

Homozygous Nf1E2 pupae are smaller than wild type. Small pupae are also seen in heterozygotes. Both homozygous and heterozygous adult flies exhibit associative olfactory learning defects.

Nf1E2/Nf1E1 pupae are smaller than wild type. Adult flies exhibit associative olfactory learning defects.

Homozygous pupae are 15-20% smaller than wild-type controls. Heterozygous pupae also show a small but highly significant reduction in length compared to controls.

The surface area of the wing in homozygotes is only 57% that of control flies.
