Flies expressing Sp7[dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ] under the control of Scer\GAL4[da.G32] show no effect on mortality within 24 hours of mild wounding in 7-8 days old adults. Flies expressing Sp7[dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] show comparable levels of mortality to wild type in response to mild wounding in 7-8 day old adults.
Approximately 50% of animals carrying Sp7dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ and Scer\GAL4Act die at the late pupal stage or during eclosion. Adults expressing Sp7dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4Act do not show melanisation around a wound site a few hours after infection by piercing with a tungsten needle harboring E.coli and M.luteus, in contrast to control flies which show significant melanisation around the wound site. Adult flies expressing Sp7dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 show a similar survival rate to control flies after bacterial (E.carotovora, E.faecalis) infection, although their survival is somewhat reduced compared to controls after natural fungal infection (B.bassiana).

Co-expression of Sp7dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ results in a further decrease in the survival rate of flies expressing DifdsRNA.IR.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 after fungal (C.albicans) infection. Co-expression of Sp7dsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ results in a moderate further decrease in the survival rate of flies expressing BG4dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 after bacterial (E.carotovora) infection.
