Expression of lin-52GD12885 in larval eye-antennal discs, under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, results in increased disorganisation of the ommatidia, specifically on the anterior part of the eye, which is characterised by fused ommatidia and loss of mechanosensory bristles. The degree of disorganisation is dose dependent and is enhanced when two copies of lin-52GD12885 are present.

There is a slight increase in the level of cell proliferation in eye-antennal discs downregulating lin-52, through expression of lin-52GD12885 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF. However, there is a marked increase in the number of apoptotic cells at lower lin-52 levels.

lin-52GD12885 eye disc clones induce enhanced hid expression and a patch of rough eye phenotype surrounded by normal ommatidia, suggesting regulation of hid by lin-52 is cell autonomous.

Males expressing lin-52GD12885 specifically in late spermatogonia and early spermatocytes using Scer\GAL4bam.T:Hsim\VP16 are fully fertile and display morphologically normal testes.

Adults expressing lin-52GD12885 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237 results in the absence of 0% or 40-50% of the Scer\GAL4pnr-MD237-expressing area of the notum, depending on the insertion line used.

Downregulation of lin-52 in the eye-antennal disc in a apoptosis-negative environment, through expression of lin-52GD12885 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF in a Df(3L)H99 background, results in a suppression of the lin-52-associated eye phenotype.

Overexpression of Diap1Scer\UAS.cUa in the eye-antennal disc expressing lin-52GD12885, with both transgenes under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, suppresses the increase in apoptosis seen upon downregulation of lin-52 alone.

A rpr87 or grimMB10379 mutant background does not affect the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 eye phenotype, and the number of dying cells remains unaltered.

A hid05014 mutant background suppresses the eye phenotype seen upon expression of lin-52GD12885 under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, along with a dramatic reduction in apoptosis in the eye-antennal disc.

A Rbf120a mutant background dominantly enhances the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 eye phenotype. This is accompanied by a corresponding increase in hid protein and elevated apoptosis in the eye-antennal disc.

An E2f1rM729 mutant background dominantly enhances the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 eye phenotype. This is accompanied by a corresponding increase in hid protein and elevated apoptosis in the eye-antennal disc.

An E2f2329 mutant background dominantly enhances the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 eye phenotype. This is accompanied by a corresponding increase in hid protein and elevated apoptosis in the eye-antennal disc.

Co-expression of Rpd3TRiP.cUa and lin-52GD12885 together in the developing eye, under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF, results in a spotted eye phenotype. These eye-antennal discs display activation of hid, in cells adjacent to the morphogenetic furrow and extending further up to the distal end of the eye-antennal discs.

Co-expression of Avic\GFPEGFP.W.5'F-WT.T:SV40\nls-largeT enhances the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 adult eye phenotype.

Co-expression of Avic\GFPEGFP.W.5'F-E2FMut.T:SV40\nls-largeT fails to modify the Scer\GAL4GMR.PF>lin-52GD12885 adult eye phenotype.
