Epithelium turnover in the midgut is blocked in flies expressing upd1GD1158 under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU and Scer\GAL4esg-NP7397 in the intestinal stem cells (ISCs) and their subsequent lineage (using the "esg[F/O]" flip-out lineage system to mark ISC progenitors and their subsequent lineage). ISC division is also strongly inhibited.

The response of increased proliferation of intestinal stem cells which is seen in wild-type flies after oral infection with Erwinia carotovora carotovora 15 is blocked in animals expressing upd1GD1158 under the control of Scer\GAL4esg-NP5130.

Expression of upd1GD1158 under the control of Scer\GAL4upd1.PU results in a reduction in the number of outer border follicle cells compared to wild type and also results in defects in border follicle cell migration. Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4slbo.2.6 does not cause these phenotypes.

Adults expressing upd1GD1158 under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Scer\GAL4Myo31DF-NP0001-mediated expression of upd1GD1158 results in significantly increased survival following infection with S. marcescens compared to controls.

Expression of upd1GD1158 in enteroblasts under the control of Scer\GAL4Su(H).GBE does not reduce tumor formation in the anterior midgut of Sox21a6 mutant flies.

The melanotic tumour phenotype see in animals carrying gcmDN.Scer\UAS.T:Rep-en, Scer\GAL4srp.D.cCa and Scer\GAL80ts.αTub84B which have been raised at 18[o]C and then shifted to 29[o]C during the first larval instar stage is completely suppressed if they are also co-expressing upd1GD1158.
