Adults expressing srp^GD12779 under the control of Scer\GAL4^elav.PLu (in the presence of Dcr-2^Scer\UAS.cDa to increase the efficiency of RNAi) do not show a significant defect in avoidance of noxious temperature (46[o]C) compared to control flies.

Expression of srp^GD12779 under the control of Scer\GAL4^{kn-col85-GAL4} results in defects in niche cell differentiation, based on the absence of filopodial extensions. In addition, a large increase in the number of differentiated plasmatocytes and crystal cells is observed. There is a 67% increase in blood cell number due to perturbation of srp function in niche cells.
