Overexpression of RYBPScer\UAS.cBa in the third instar wing or haltere disc (using Scer\GAL4nub-AC-62), leg or antenna disc (using Scer\GAL4Dll-em212 or Scer\GAL4Dll-md23) induces apoptotic cell death. Scer\GAL4unspecified-mediated expression of RYBPScer\UAS.cBa results in reduced wing size.
Flies expressing RYBPScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4Ubx-lac1-Gal4 have ectopic sex combs on the metathoracic legs. Flies expressing RYBPScer\UAS.cBa under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS occasionally have ectopic sex combs on the mesothoracic and metathoracic legs. Males of this genotype have an "Ultra-abdominal" phenotype (long bristles in the A1 segment that are morphologically characteristic of posterior abdominal segments) and a "Miscadestral" phenotype (ectopic pigmentation in the A4 segment).
The wings of RYBPScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1 adults are small and show a range of phenotypes including reduction in the wing size, disruption in the formation of the triple row, malformation of the vein pattern, and trichomes typical of the haltere. In RYBPScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4en-e16E adults, haltere-like trichomes are found in the posterior fo the wing blade, vein 4 is lost and in some cases the poterior row bristles are also lost. Defects in the scutellum suggest transformation towards a more anterior mesonotum fate and a partial ectopic wing is sometimes seen sprouting from the humerus (suggesting some prothracic to mesothoracic transformation). The increased size and ectopic bristles seen in Ubxlac1-GAL4/+ are suppressed by RYBPScer\UAS.cBa (Ubxlac1-GAL4 is also a GAL4 driver:Scer\GAL4Ubx-lac1-Gal4), but the resulting halteres have trichomes resembling wing hairs, rather than the small trichomes normally present on halteres. This phenotype is suppressed by Pc3/+.

The reduced wing phenotype of RYBPScer\UAS.cBa; Scer\GAL4sd-SG29.1 flies is enhanced by Pc3/+ or pho1/+. In contrast, trxE2/+ largely rescues the wing defects seen in these animals.
