Drives expression in fruitless expressing neurons, including in male-specific fruitless neurons, in adults. Drives expression in the larval and adult mushroom bodies, and in a subset of pupal and adult antennal lobe glomeruli.

Scer\GAL4NP0021 drives expression in around 6 uniglomerular antennal lobe projection neurons. Their cell bodies are positioned in the lateral part of the antennal lobe and they project to antennal lobe glomerulus DA1 only. Expression is also detected in one ventrally located multiglomerular projection neuron which innervates glomeruli DA4l, VA1d, VA1v, VL1, VL2a, VM4, VM6, VC5, VP1, VP2, VP3 and VP4.

Scer\GAL4NP0021 drives expression in a subset of neurons in the male pupal brain, including a cluster of neurons located dorsal and medially to the antennal lobe (mAL neurons). Expression is also observed in a subset of neurons in the ventral nerve cord. Almost all neurons that express Scer\GAL4NP0021 also express hb protein. All neurons labelled by Scer\GAL4NP0021 express fru protein.

Expression is observed in ~200 projection neurons in the γ lobe of the mushroom body.

Expressed in clusters of mushroom body neurons that project to the median and lateral bundles. Expression in the corpora pedunculata (mushroom body) includes all known substructures (but may not include all neurons).

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP0021 cells in adults significantly reduces short term (5 min) aversive olfactory memory, but not its anaesthesia-resistant component, compared to controls; inhibition during testing significantly reduces medium term (3 h) aversive olfactory memory, including its anaesthesia-resistant component, compared to controls, with no effect on long term (24 h after massed training) memory; inhibition does not affect olfactory acuity, compared to controls; inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of a subset of Scer\GAL4NP0021 cells in adults (restricted using Scer\GAL80Mef2.mb247) during testing does not affect medium term (3 h) aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls.
