Flies expressing Ir84a[Scer\UAS.cBa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Or35a.PF] results in a strong olfactory response to phenylacetaldehyde in the ac3 sensilla (a response not seen in the wild-type ac3 sensilla), although a response to phenylacetonitrile is not seen in the ac3 sensilla in these flies.

Comments
Expression of Ir84a[Scer\UAS.cBa] using Scer\GAL4[Ir84a-GAL4] restores the response to phenylacetic acid and phenylacetaldehyde in Ir84a[GAL4] homozygotes. The reduced courtship seen in Ir84a[GAL4] males is also rescued. The increased courtship seen in wild type males when killed female objects are perfumed with phenylacetic acid (or fly food) is not observed in Ir84a[GAL4] males, but this is partially restored by expression of Ir84a[Scer\UAS.cBa].
