Expression of BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU results in an increase in nucleolar volume in larval salivary gland cells. In addition, the nucleoli are multi-lobed (in contrast to the round nucleolus seen in wild type).

Adults expressing BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU are larger in size and weigh more than wild-type controls.

Males expressing BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG have reduced fertility. The males show a significant reduction in the number of germline stem cells (average of 3.70 per testis) compared to controls (average of 7.91 per testis). The mutant males also show loss of spermatogonia, as evidenced by holes in the location where they are normally found. In addition, a significant increase in dying cell clusters at the spermatogonial location is seen in the mutant testes.

Males expressing P{Sym-UAS-BHD} (which carries both BHDSym.Scer\UAS and BHDa.Sym.Scer\UAS) under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG have reduced fertility.

Co-expression of BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS enhances the semi-lethality caused by expression of Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU at 21-22[o]C, such that few adult escapers emerge. The eye defects of adult escapers are enhanced.

Co-expression of BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS exacerbates the increase in the number of mitotic cells per eye imaginal disc seen in larvae expressing Ras85DV12.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PU.

Co-expression of BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS significantly suppresses the testis phenotype caused by expression of upd1Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG; the number of germline stem cells is significantly reduced, and the overall shape of the testis is closer to that of wild type.

Co-expression of BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS significantly suppresses the male germline stem cell expansion phenotype caused by expression of dppScer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG.

Co-expression of P{Sym-UAS-BHD} (which carries both BHDSym.Scer\UAS and BHDa.Sym.Scer\UAS) significantly suppresses the testis phenotype caused by expression of osScer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG; the number of germline stem cells is significantly reduced, and the overall shape of the testis is closer to that of wild type.

Co-expression of P{Sym-UAS-BHD} (which carries both BHDSym.Scer\UAS and BHDa.Sym.Scer\UAS) significantly suppresses the male germline stem cell expansion phenotype caused by expression of dppScer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.PG.

Comments

Co-expression of BHDScer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1 suppresses the increase in nucleolar volume seen in salivary gland cells of larvae expressing BHDdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU.
