Homozygous larvae undergo developmental arrest very early in the third larval instar and have no imaginal discs.

Mutant first instar larval tissue cultured in vivo in wild-type adult hosts does not give rise to imaginal disc tissue.

Heterozygous leg discs which are cut and then cultured in vivo for 48 hours form a blastema, as occurs in wild-type discs, but the blastema is significantly smaller than normal in the heterozygotes.

The overgrowth phenotype that is seen in leg discs after induction of wgAct5C.PS expression in the early third larval instar is strongly suppressed if the animals are also carrying Alr1/+. A blastema is still formed at the normal time in these animals, but it is smaller than that seen in animals in which wgAct5C.PS expression has been induced in an otherwise wild-type background.

The frequency of adults that show transdetermination (wing structures in the adult legs) after induction of wgAct5C.PS 72 hours after egg deposition is increased to 53% if the animals are also carrying Alr1/+.
