fab1[31]/Df(2R)14H10W-30 pupae are larger than controls, even though these animals do not have an extended larval phase. Legs dissected from the mutant pharate adults are the correct length but are considerably thicker than normal. The Garland cells of fab1[31]/Df(2R)14H10W-30 wandering third instar larvae are up to 3 times the normal diameter and their endosomes are dramatically enlarged compared to wild type. The imaginal discs of mutant larvae have larger cells than normal and show a disorganised distribution of nuclei relative to wild-type discs, although overall cell polarity is intact.
