Ectopic expression of Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF has no significant effect on the number of dopaminergic PPL1 neurons in the adult brain.
Expression of Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF in larval motor neurons results in decreased axonal mitochondrial transport flux and velocity in both anterograde and retrograde directions, decreased mitochondrial length, and decreased accumulation of mitochondria in the most distal boutons of neuromuscular junctions, as compared with controls.
Mitochondrial aggregates form in the dorsolateral protocerebral posterior DA (dopaminergic) neuron cluster in animals expressing Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF. The nonaggregated mitochondria appear spherical and tubular mitochondrial structures are rarely seen.
The fraction of cultured dopaminergic neurons having thread-like tubular mitochondria is lower in cells expressing Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF than in control cells.

The loss of dopaminergic (DA) PPL1 neurons along with the mitochondrial aggregations in DA neurons observed in the brains of adult flies expressing Tom20KK107626 RNAi under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF are partially suppressed by co-expression of Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa but this does not affect the loss of PPL1 neurons induced by expression of either Tim8JF01533 or Tom40JF02030. The wing posture and jumping ability defects characteristic for adult flies expressing pumScer\UAS.cYa controlled by the Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU driver are also not rescued by co-expression of Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa.
Co-expression of Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa enhances the increase in the number of type II neuroblasts which is seen in the central brain of animals expressing NScer\UAS.T:SV5\V5,T:Zzzz\His6 under the control of Scer\GAL4pnt-14-94.
The mitochondrial aggregation phenotype seen in the dorsolateral protocerebral posterior DA (dopaminergic) neuron cluster in animals expressing Pink1Scer\UAS.cYa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF is not modified by Drp1T:Zzzz\FLAG,T:Zzzz\TC,T:Ivir\HA1 or by opa1-likeEY09863/+.
