Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4-driven expression of Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS in the posterior compartment of the larval wing imaginal disc engenders a smaller than normal wing size, without noticeable effects on wing patterning or cell differentiation.

Wing cells expressing Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4, are on average 24% smaller than wild-type cells. The reduction in cell size accounts for the smaller posterior compartment size in Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4-driven Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS-expressing wings.

The fraction of cells in the S phase of the cell cycle is higher in cells expressing Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4-driven Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS compared to wild-type cells. However, the frequency of mitotic cells is not significantly modified in Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS-expressing third instar larval wing imaginal discs (under the control of Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4). The final number of cells appears normal and cell death is not induced as a result of Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4-driven Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS expression.

Third instar wing imaginal disc cells expressing Scer\GAL4hh-Gal4-driven Axud1dsRNA.Scer\UAS possess clonal growth advantage compared to surrounding cells expressing higher levels of Axud1.
