Somatic double mutant clones of mid1a5 and Df(2L)H15-x4 in the leg imaginal disc cause the autonomous transformation of the wg-dependent peg-shaped row 1/8 bristles into lateral or dorsal rapier-like bristles. Similar cell-autonomous transformations are observed in the second leg tibia, in which the ventral apical bristle is lost in double mutant clones that span the distal tibia. In most of the double mutant clones, a large bristle similar to the dorsally located pre-apical bristle develop in place of the apical bristle. The apical bristle associated cluster of peg-shaped spur bristles are autonomously transformed to dorsal-like rapier-shaped bristles in mid1a5-Df(2L)H15-x4 clones. The sex combs and transverse rows of the first leg are also deleted in mid1a5-Df(2L)H15-x4 clones. Other ventral structures are either lost or disorganised within mid1a5-Df(2L)H15-x4 clones.
