The adulthood-only expression of Atg5JF02703 under the control of Scer\GAL4esg-NP5130 (and Gal80[ts], for the temporal control of expression) leads to a severe decrease in the numbers of intestinal stem cells and of mitotic figures in the adult midgut epithelium, as compared to controls.
Expression of Atg5JF02703 under the control of Scer\GAL4Myo31DF-NP0001 results in significantly delayed midgut degradation after pupariation, with increased size of the midgut and gastric caeca 0 hrs and 4 hrs after puparium formation, but no significant difference in autophagy levels 2 hrs after puparium formation, as compared to controls. Expression of Atg5JF02703 under the control of Scer\GAL4cg.PU results in a decrease in starvation-induced autophagy in the larval fat body, as compared to controls.

The wing nicking phenotype caused by expression of domdsRNA.Sym.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4bbg-C96 is enhanced if the flies are also co-expressing Atg5JF02703.
