hide Detailed Description
Statement
Reference
Ras85D[KP] and wild-type larvae are comparable in body size. However, mutant adults show significantly reduced body weight. Homozygous mutants show a 23.5% reduction in wing size, and decreased wing cell size. Ras85D[KP] mutant adults have a rough-eye phenotype and the eye is reduced in size. Neuronal differentiation in third instar larval eye discs is observed, however adult eyes show largely disorganised ommatidia. The full complement of photoreceptors are seen, but many ommatidia contain fewer photoreceptor cells. There is substantially increased levels of cell death in third instar larval eye discs.

hide Genetic Interactions
Statement
Reference
Df(3L)H99/W[05014] partially suppresses the cell death phenotype of Ras85D[KP] mutant flies. The eye phenotype in Ras85D[KP] mutant flies is not suppressed by ectopic expression of Pi3K92E[Scer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC], Akt1[Scer\UAS.T:Ivir\HA1] or Buffy[Scer\UAS.cQa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]. The eye phenotype in Ras85D[KP] mutant flies is partially suppressed by ectopic expression of Traf4[dsRNA.Scer\UAS], Tak1[dsRNA.Scer\UAS], hep[dsRNA.Scer\UAS], bsk[DN.Scer\UAS], egr[IR.Scer\UAS], or wgn[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]. Expression of hep[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] (under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]) in flies carrying Df(3L)H99/W[05014] in a Ras85D[KP] mutant background strongly suppresses the eye phenotype.
hide Xenogenetic Interactions
Statement
Reference
Expression of BacA\p35[GMR.PH] in a Ras85D[KP] mutant background only partially suppresses increased cell death. Expression of Traf4[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] (under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]) and BacA\p35[GMR.PH] in a Ras85D[KP] mutant background strongly suppresses the eye phenotype. Expression of hep[dsRNA.Scer\UAS] (under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF]) and BacA\p35[GMR.PH] in a Ras85D[KP] mutant background strongly suppresses the eye phenotype, and much reduced levels of cell death are observed.

Comments
Expression of Ras85D[Scer\UAS.cKa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act] in Ras85D[KP] mutant animals fully rescues the mutant eye phenotype.
