ntc[ms771] mutants are sterile. The sperm individualization complex does not form and sperm fail to individualize.
Mutant spermatids have normal axonemes and mitochondrial derivatives at the individualisation stage, but the individualization complex does not form. There is a lack of caspase activation in the mutant spermatids.

Expression of PI31[Scer\UAS.P\T.T:Ivir\HA1] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] does not restore fertility or sperm individualization to ntc[ms771] mutants.

ntcms771 is partially rescued by ntcdj.T:Saur\A
Not rescued by
Comments
ntc[WT.hsp83] completely restores fertility to ntc[ms771] animals and sperm individualization complexes are normal. ntc[V-E.hsp83] fails to restore fertility to ntc[ms771] animals and sperm individualization is incomplete.
ntc[Hsp83.PB] rescues ntc[ms771] male sterility and lack of caspase activation seen in the spermatids of ntc[ms771] males. ntc[dj.T:Saur\A] rescues cleaved caspase staining and the formation of irregular individualisation complexes in the testes of ntc[ms771] males, but fails to rescue their sterility.
