ScerGAL4ptc-NP3253 drives expression in two adult multiglomerular antennal lobe projection neurons. Their cell bodies are located in the lateral part of the antennal lobe and they innervate antennal lobe glomeruli DL5, DM1, DM2, DM3, DM4, DM6, V, VA2, VC4, VC1, VM7d, VM7v, DC1, DL2v, DP1l, VC3l, VL1, DP1m, VP1, VP2, VP3 and the antennal lobe hub.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

Inhibition (using Hsap\KCNJ2UAS.EGFP) of Scer\GAL4NP3253 cells, in combination with a Gal80[ts] transgene to restrict expression to the adult stage, results in reduced survival rates following infection with Ecc15, compared to controls; restricting the number of inhibited cells (using Scer\GAL80elav.PY) reduces, but does not eliminate, this reduction in survival rate; unlike controls, Ecc15 cells are seen in the whole body of the fly following oral infection; non-infected flies have significantly increased peritrophic matrix permeability, significantly increased stem cell proliferation in the midgut and shorter lifespan, compared to controls; there is a flattening of part of the proventriculus, significantly increased proventriculus lumen and anterior midgut cross-sectional areas, with no obvious change in the number or shape of midgut epithelial cells, compared to controls; there is no effect on feeding or excretion rate, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 30[o]C) of Scer\GAL4NP3253 cells does not affect survival rate of adults following Ecc15 infection, compared to controls.
