Larvae and pupae expressing Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] driven by strong, constitutive drivers die as giant larvae or giant pupae, often containing melanotic tumors. Expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] driven by Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] results in viable adults with about a 10% increase in length, weight and wing size compared with controls. Expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] driven by Scer\GAL4[Act.PU] or Scer\GAL4[C-765] results in extra posterior crossveins and extra longitudinal veins compared to controls. Rabex-5[ex42]/+ enhances the wing phenotype resulting from Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] expression driven by Scer\GAL4[C-765].

Co-expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] with Dcr-2[Scer\UAS.cDa] in the early eye driven by Scer\GAL4[ey.PU] leads to a fraction of the eyes with severe phenotypes, including overgrown eyes, outgrowths, small or lost eyes, and extra antennae. Ras85D[e1B] and Ras85D[e2F] dominantly suppress the extra wing veins caused by constitutive expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] via Scer\GAL4[Act.PU]. Ras85D[e1B] dominantly suppresses the extra wing veins caused by wing-specific expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] via Scer\GAL4[C-765]. A Ras85D[e1B]/+ genetic background results in fewer flies with severe eye phenotypes upon co-expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] and Dcr-2[Scer\UAS.cDa] driven by Scer\GAL4[ey.PU]. Ras85D[e1B] dominantly suppresses the increased body size, body length and wing area resulting from the expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] driven by Scer\GAL4[Act.PU]. Body weight of all flies and wing area in female flies are no longer statistically different from controls. Co-expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] significantly enhances the number of eyes with black tissue and significantly increases lethality resulting from the expression of Ras85D[V12.S35.Scer\UAS] driven by Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU]. The overgrowth, extra antennae, and ectopic eye phenotypes of Ras85D[V12.S35.Scer\UAS] overexpression are also enhanced by Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa]-expression. Co-expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] significantly enhances the number of eyes with black tissue and significantly increases lethality resulting from the expression of Egfr[U.A887T.Scer\UAS] driven by Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU]. Co-expression of Rabex-5[VDRC.cUa] fails to enhance the eye phenotypes resulting from the overexpression of phl[Scer\UAS.F179] driven by Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU].
