Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion, resulting in a 357bp deletion starting at position -33. The deletion removes all of exon 1, the intervening intron and part of exon 2.

Less than 10% of homozygotes and Mob4EYΔL3/Df(2R)42 animals survive to the third larval instar, most die as first or second instar larvae.

15% of Mob4EYΔL3/Mob4EY23407 animals develop to the third larval instar, 3% pupate but do not eclose.

Mob4EYΔL307/Mob4EYΔL3 adults have a significantly reduced lifespan compared to controls.

Third instar mutant larvae have a "tail-flip" phenotype.

Mob4EYΔL3/Df(2R)42 and Mob4EYΔL3/Mob4EY23407 third instar larvae have supernumerary boutons at the neuromuscular junctions of muscles 6/7 and 4 compared to controls.

Ultrastructurally, multiple abnormal cisterna-like endocytic structures are seen budding from the plasma membrane of presynaptic terminals at the neuromuscular junctions of Mob4EYΔL3/Df(2R)42 larvae. In peripheral nerves of these animals, accumulations of microtubule-associated vesicles with larger diameters than in controls are seen.

Mob4EYΔL3 third larval instar neuromuscular junctions show a small (approximately 15%) reduction in evoked EPSC amplitude (measured at low stimulation frequency in 2mM extracellular Ca[2+]). The mutants show relatively normal synaptic depression during 10 Hz stimulation but complete failure in EPSCs are seen after 4 seconds with a faster 50Hz stimulation train.

Mutants have abnormal microtubule morphology at the neuromuscular junction and in peripheral nerves and muscles.
