Drives expression in the whole of the alpha and beta lobes, with stronger expression being detected in the surface and posterior subdivisions. In the gamma lobe, the main body of the lobe stains stronger than the dorsomedial tip.
Stains a large set of embryonic- and larval-born gamma neurons as well as glial cells in the ventral nerve cord.
Expression of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 is stronger in the alpha/beta and gamma mushroom body lobes than in the alpha'/beta' mushroom body lobes.
Expression is limited to alpha, beta, and gamma neurons in the adult mushroom body.
In the mushroom body, Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 drives expression in the whole of the alpha and beta lobes, with stronger expression being detected in the surface and posterior subdivisions. In the gamma lobe, the main body of the lobe stains stronger than the dorsomedial tip.
Expression is found in only a few alpha'/beta' neurons.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 cells in adults does not affect startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls. Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 cells in adults does not affect startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls; thermogenetic activation of the combined set of Scer\GAL4GMR16A06 and Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 cells, or the combined set of Scer\GAL4GMR35B12 and Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 cells, in adults significantly reduces startle-induced climbing behavior, compared to controls, but in both cases this phenotype is significantly less severe than activation without Scer\GAL4Mef2.247.
Optogenetic stimulation (using Npha\HRe.UAS.cBa.YFP with 593 nm (yellow) light activation) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 neurons significantly impairs visual short term memory following training with pain stimulus in adult flies, compared to controls. Blocking the output (using shits.UAS.cUaat 30[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 neurons does not affect visual short term memory following training with pain stimulus in adult flies, compared to controls.
Inhibition of neural activity in Scer\GAL4Mef2.247-expressing neurons does not affect sensitivity to (S,Z,Z)-CH503 (a more potent stereoisomer of the gustatory sex pheromone CH503). As in wild type flies, courtship defects are seen in response to (S,Z,Z)-CH503.
Inhibition (using shits.UAS.cUa) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 neurons does not affect the reduction in food intake observed when larvae are moved to essential amino acid-deficient food, compared to controls.
Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of Scer\GAL4Mef2.247 cells in adults significantly reduces aversive and appetitive 1-min visual memory, compared to controls; inhibition during training or testing alone significantly reduces aversive and appetitive 30-min visual memory, compared to controls; inhibition does not significantly affect responses to sugar or electric shock, compared to controls.
