Expression of Hsap\GALE[Scer\UAS.cSa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] rescues the lethality caused by expression of Gale[NIG.12030R] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI]. The rescued males and females show normal fecundity (number of offspring produced when mated to wild-type flies of the opposite sex). The short lived phenotype seen in adult males and females expressing Gale[NIG.12030R] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] from the late larval or early-to-mid-pupal stage onwards (the temperature sensitive Scer\GAL80[ts.αTub84B] allele is used to regulate the timing of expression) in the presence of 175mM galactose is completely suppressed by expression of Hsap\GALE[Scer\UAS.cSa] under the control of Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI].

Expression of Hsap\GALE[Scer\UAS.cSa] using either Scer\GAL4[arm.PS] or Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] rescues the lethality of Gale[Δy]/Gale[f00624] animals. Rescued animals are viable, fertile, and appear morphologically normal. Expression of Hsap\GALE[Scer\UAS.cSa] using Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] rescues the lethality of Gale[NIG.12030R], Scer\GAL4[Act5C.PI] animals. Rescued animals are viable, fertile, and appear morphologically normal. Expression of Hsap\GALE[Scer\UAS.cSa] using Scer\GAL4[drm.7.1] partially rescues the lethality of Gale[Δy]/Gale[f00624] animals, whereas use of Scer\GAL4[elav-C155] or Scer\GAL4[c754] is completely insufficient to rescue or delay lethality of this genotype.
