Introduction of two premature stop codons, a +1 frameshift mutation and a SalI site into the first exon of Wwox.
Wwox1/Wwoxf04545 animals do not show sensitivity to ionising radiation.
The radiation sensitivity reported for Wwox1 homozygotes in FBrf0188204 was significantly reduced after four rounds of back-crossing of the mutant flies to wild-type flies. This suggests that the radiation sensitivity attributed to the Wwox1 mutation in FBrf0188204 was not due to an effect on Wwox but was a consequence of perturbations elsewhere in the genome.
FlyBase curator comment: the radiation sensitivity reported for Wwox1 homozygotes in FBrf0188204 has subsequently been shown not to be due to the mutation in Wwox, but instead due to perturbations elsewhere in the genome (see FBrf0193053).
