ImpL2Def20 mutant flies exhibit a reduction in circulating trehalose concentration. Whole-body trehalose levels are similar to controls.

The body size of ImpL2Def20/ImpL2Def42 mutants is increased relative to wild-type flies. The size increase is attributable primarily to an increase in the number of cells, because cell size is only slightly affected. Apart from the size and weight increase, ImpL2Def20/ImpL2Def42 flies appear completely normal and eclose at the expected frequency and are not delayed in development. The weight increase is more pronounced in ImpL2Def20/ImpL2Def42 females than in males, although the increases in wing area and cell number are similar. This differential effect is caused by enlarged ovaries.

Survival of ImpL2Def20/ImpL2Def42 early third instar larvae is severely compromised under starvation conditions.
