Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] results in progressive depigmentation. At 14 days old, degenerating photoreceptor cells display large autophagosomes. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[ninaE.PT] results in degeneration, characterised by loss of photoreceptor cells. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the glia under the control of Scer\GAL4[Eaat1.PR] results in reduced animal viability. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4[elav.PU] results in reduced animal viability. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the photoreceptor neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] in flies fed on 1μM rapamycin for 2 or 7 days both result in a reduction in the number of photoreceptor cells per ommatidium. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU], aged at 29[o]C for 28 days, results in a significant degeneration of retinal tissue.

Co-expression of Tor[TED.Scer\UAS] and Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU] results in the formation of gigantic autophagolysosomes. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU], aged at 29[o]C for 28 days, results in a significant degeneration of retinal tissue, which is suppressed by co-expression of DnaJ-1[Scer\UAS.cKa]. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU], aged at 29[o]C for 28 days, results in a significant degeneration of retinal tissue, which is enhanced by co-expression of Atg5[dsRNA.Scer\UAS]. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU], aged at 29[o]C for 28 days, results in a significant degeneration of retinal tissue, which is enhanced by co-expression of Tor[TED.Scer\UAS]. Expression of Gug[75QN.Scer\UAS] in the adult eye under the control of Scer\GAL4[GMR.PU], aged at 29[o]C for 28 days, results in a significant degeneration of retinal tissue, which is enhanced by co-expression of Atg1[GS10797].
