The expression of Kdm5GLV21071 under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI results in third instar larval muscles exhibiting altered NMJ morphology, with decreased number and increased size of type Ib synaptic boutons.

Expression of lidGLV21071 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 results in premature transcriptional reactivation as well as precocious and aberrant karyosome remodeling (the oocytes display early increase in chromatin openness and overly developed chromatin protrusions compared to controls) in prophase I-arrested oocytes (this however is not due to the incapability of the oocytes to enter transcriptional quiescence or to compact their chromosomes into karyosome in the first place). The metaphase I arrest of mature oocytes is not affected. Expression of lidGLV21071 compromises meiotic completion as illustrated by defects in polar body integrity (scattered chromatin, abnormal chromosome condensation) and the eggs (though normal in size and dorsal-ventral patterning) largely fail to enter embryogenesis after fertilization resulting in strongly reduced female fertility.

Expression of lidGLV21071 under the control of Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 in female germlines results in sterility and abnormal morphology of the karyosome in most oocytes; a centromere clustering defect in the germaria wherein cohesion of sister chromosomes is maintained, but pairing of homologous pericentromeric regions of chromosomes 2 and 3 is disrupted; defects in the assembly and/or maintenance of the synaptonemal complex; defects in chromosome positioning and orientation in metaphase I oocytes; but does not cause significantly different numbers of DNA double stranded breaks in the germaria, as compared to controls.
