Mosaic mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 adult eyes (generated using the eyFLP method) exhibit a clonal growth advantage compared to Df(3L)H99 controls.

Flies with heads composed entirely of mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 clone cells (generated in a minute background) die at the pharate adult stage with extra folds of head cuticle relative to controls. The eyes are constricted at their margins, protrude from the head and contain enlarged facets.

Generation of mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 mutant clones throughout the body (generated in a minute background) results in outgrowths in the thorax and increased haltere size compared to Df(3L)H99 mutants alone.

Excess interommatidial cells are seen in mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 pupal clones in comparison with Df(3L)H99 controls. Pupal clones also exhibit patterning defects.

Ectopic S phase cells are seen in mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 mutant eye clones posterior to the second mitotic wave. These cells are post-mitotic in both wild type and Df(3L)H99 controls.

mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 clones in the third instar larval wing disc epithelium are consistently larger, contain more cells than twin spots in controls and have regular boundaries. DNA content and size are also similar to Df(3L)H99 controls.

Expression of wtsScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU does not suppress the head overgrowth seen in mopsfv3 Df(3L)H99 mutant clones (generated in a minute background).
