Expression of speckHMS01617 under the control of Scer\GAL4nSyb.PS or Scer\GAL4alrm.PD leads to low levels of activity while awake during daytime. Its expression under the control of Scer\GAL4alrm.PD also leads to increased recovery sleep the next day after overnight mechanical sleep deprivation.

Expression of speckHMS01617 under the control of Scer\GAL4Tub.PU (in combination with a Dicer-2 transgene to enhance RNAi efficiency) leads to ectopic pigmentation in the wing hinge.

Expression of speckHMS01617 under the control of Scer\GAL4Tub.PU (in combination with a Dicer-2 transgene to enhance RNAi efficiency) leads to excess pigmentation at the anal pad of pupal cases.
