Site of nucleotide substitution in mutant inferred by FlyBase based on reported amino acid change. Note: the mutation was annotated at residue L850 of isoforms pros-PJ, PK, PL, and PM, (r5.54) as this was deemed the more likely site of the mutation. There is also an L850 codon in isoforms pros-LH and LI, which could also be the site of the mutation. The mutation was reported only as L850R.

Homozygous clones induced by the eyFLP method result in ectopic CO[[2]] neurons on the maxillary palp (MP). The ectopic neurons show dual targeting specificity: in addition to targeting the V-glomerulus they also innervate a set of medial glomeruli normally innervated by two MP olfactory receptor neuron classes. The ectopic neurons are functional and respond to CO[[2]]. The number of antennal CO[[2]] neurons is unaffected.

Expression of mir-279Scer\UAS.T:Disc\RFP under the control of Scer\GAL4Act.PU suppresses the formation of ectopic CO[[2]] neurons on the maxillary palp caused by prosIG2227 clones in 80% of animals.

The number of ectopic CO[[2]] neurons on the maxillary palp in animals containing prosIG2227 clones is significantly suppressed if they are also carrying either esgk00606/+ or nerfin-1159/+, but is unaffected if they are also carrying exexKK30/+.
